What you need to get your Florida driver's license

To get a driver's license in Florida, first determine eligibility. You must be a Florida resident and have legal status in the US (US citizen, green card holder, valid visa, etc.)

  1. First time drivers will need to complete a 4-hour Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Course in-person or online. If you have had a driver's license from elsewhere, then this course is not needed (must present original doc.).

  4. The learner's permit will allow you to practice driving on the road REGARDLESS of your age. If you are a minor, you must have had your permit for a full year before you can obtain your driver's license or turn 18, whichever comes first.   5. In order to obtain your regular driver's license, you must pass the driving exam. Make sure you have practiced before your exam. You have five chances in a year to pass your driving test.
